Popular manga is often adapted into anime (cartoon animation) once a market interest has been established. (Manga is sometimes mistakenly called “anime” even when not animated.) Adapted stories are often modified to appeal to a more mainstream market. Although not as common, original anime is sometimes adapted into manga (such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop).

Animation. For some of us it’s an escape from reality into a world of limitless possibilities. For others it provides a window to another time, another place, and even another state of being where the confines of the physical world give way to the artist’s imagination. Ah, there are already lots of answers, and most of them are corrects. Especially after you read from wikipedia.
Now I’ll just summarize it to you, it’s very simple.
Anime is Japan cartoon movie/film. As long it’s cartoon movie/film and it’s made of Japan, it’s anime. ***
Manga is Japan comic. As long it’s comic and it’s made of Japan, it’s manga.
While Hentai is an anime, but with heavy sex oriented. You could say it’s porn anime (XXX anime). As long it’s cartoon movie and it’s made of Japan and it’s porn and the majority is about, it’s hentai.
*** when I say movie, it’s not neccessary that it’s a silver screen one.
